Redirect a Blog Post to Another Website
Send visitors and search engines from an old Zoey blog post URL to its new location with a 301 redirect.
If you've moved a blog post off your Zoey store, for example to a new blog platform or a subdomain like blog.yourstore.com, you can send visitors and search engines from the old Zoey URL to the new page with a 301 redirect.
This takes two steps: unpublish the old blog post so its URL no longer loads, then import a 301 redirect pointing that URL to the new page.
Before You Begin
The redirect only works once the old URL returns a 404The 301 Redirects import only applies to URLs that would otherwise show a "Page Not Found" page. If the blog post is still published, Zoey keeps showing it and ignores the redirect.
- Use the 301 Redirects import, not Advanced > URL Rewrite. URL Rewrite is built for catalog and store pages and doesn't handle blog post URLs.
- Use a 301 (permanent) redirect so search engines move the old page's ranking to the new URL. Use 302 only if the move is temporary.
Step 1: Unpublish the Old Blog Post
- From the Control Panel, go to Blog > Posts.
- Find the post you've moved and change its Post Status to Unpublished.
- Open the old URL in a private browser window to confirm it now shows a 404 page.
The post stays saved in Zoey, so you can publish it again later if you need to. Deleting the post works too, but it can't be undone.
Step 2: Create the Redirect CSV
Create a CSV file with three columns and no header row:
- Old URL: the full URL of the blog post on your Zoey store
- New URL: the full URL of the post's new location
- Status Code: 301
https://www.mystore.com/blog/how-to-choose-a-liner/,https://blog.mystore.com/post/how-to-choose-a-liner,301Add one row per blog post if you're moving more than one.
Use https:// in both columnsIf your store uses sitewide HTTPS, both URLs must start with
https://. A redirect from anhttp://URL won't trigger.
Step 3: Upload the Redirects
For more detail on each option on this page, see URL Rewrite - 301 Redirect Import.
- From the Control Panel, go to Import & Export > 301 Redirects.
- Under Redirects System v1.0, click Choose File and select your CSV.
- Click Save Config.
- Go to Refresh > Flush Cache.
- Open the old URL in a private browser window. It should take you to the new page.
Keep your existing redirectsIf you've uploaded redirects before, click Download Redirects File first and add your new rows to that file, so your existing redirects stay in place.
Troubleshooting
The old URL still shows the blog post. The post is still published. Check its Post Status in Blog > Posts, then flush cache and try again in a private window.
The old URL shows a 404 instead of redirecting. Check that the Old URL in your CSV matches the address exactly, including https://, www, and any trailing slash. If the post can be reached at more than one address, add a row for each version.
