Buy X, Get Y free (different SKU)

For this rule you need to define in more detail which products need to be purchased (Conditions) and which ones will be for free (under Actions).

This rule will not increment the free quantity depending on the quantity of purchased. The rule will apply on products up to the Maximum Qty Discount is Applied To.

If you want to offer "Buy two shirts, get one hat for free", you would define either the shirts category or the SKUs in your condition rules, and the hat category or SKUs under Actions.

Set the Discount amount to 100 for Percent of Product Price Discount.

Percent of product price discount must be used since different products are being discounted instead of the items which qualify the cart for the promo.

The Discount Amount is Y and should be 100 so that the discounted skus are free.

The Maximum Qty Discount is Applied To is the total qty which will be considered for the discount.

The Discount Qty Step (Buy X) is how many of the product customer will have to pay for to get the Discount Amount (Y) free.
