Error: Invalid Reference Id : Names element id 0 not found
Invalid Reference Id : Names element id 0 not found
This error can occur when the customer's name has changed in QuickBooks Online or the customer ID used by the sync is no longer valid. If your integration maps Account locations to QuickBooks sub-customers, an invalid customer ID associated with the Order's location can also cause this error.
You can see what QuickBooks Online Customer ID each Zoey Account is linked to by clicking the QuickBooks tab in their Account.

Check the Order's Location and QuickBooks Customer ID
When your QuickBooks integration maps each Account location to a sub-customer, the QuickBooks Customer ID associated with the Order's location must reference an existing customer or sub-customer in QuickBooks Online. A valid ID on another location does not resolve the mapping for that Order.
API Orders Using the Global Location
An API integration can create Orders using Global (an internal default Account location) instead of a named Ship To. The Global location is not displayed on the Account page, so QuickBooks Customer IDs entered on named Ship Tos do not update the mapping used by Orders assigned to Global.
If the QuickBooks sub-customer previously linked to Global no longer exists, the sync may fail to find the customer and send the Invoice with customer ID 0. QuickBooks rejects that reference with the error Invalid Reference Id : Names element id 0 not found.
Resolve the Location Mapping
- Check which Account location the affected Order uses. For API-created Orders, confirm whether the integration assigns a named Ship To or the internal Global location.
- If the Order uses a named Ship To, verify that the QuickBooks Customer ID associated with that location references an existing customer or sub-customer in QuickBooks Online.
- If the Order uses the wrong location, update it to the correct location with a valid QuickBooks mapping. Contact Zoey Support if you need help identifying or changing the Order's location.
- If the Order must remain assigned to Global, contact Zoey Support to inspect or correct its QuickBooks Customer ID mapping. Updating the IDs on named Ship Tos alone does not correct the Global mapping.
The corrected mapping must point to an existing QuickBooks customer or sub-customer for the location used by the Order. For future API-created Orders, review the integration's location assignment so Orders use the intended location.
