Product Attribute Discount
Your product can be discounted based on their Product Attributes.
To use a Product Attribute in your Discount Conditions, you must first enable that usage for the attribute.
Enable your Product Attribute for Discounts
Go to Products > Discounts and open your Attribute.
Check off Can Be Used for Building Promotions > Discount Rules and Sales. This setting enables this attribute to be used for building conditions and actions in your Promotion rules.
Creating a Discount Rule for Products with Specific Attribute Value
Now that your Product Attribute is ready to be used in a Discount Rule, we can start creating that discount.
Open Promotions > Discount Rules and click Create a Discount Rule. As always, fill out the General Information with Name, Description, and select the Customer Groups who are eligible to receive this discount.
Setting the Conditions to Qualify Cart by Product Attribute
In your Conditions you must set up the logic to qualify the customer's Cart for this discount.
- Click the green '+' and add a Product attribute combination qualification.
- Click the green '+' again, but this time add select the attribute you wish to discount based on.
- You will now choose between
is
andis not
. Both of which are singular comparisons. If you need multiple qualifying values for this discount, click the green '+' directly under your Attribute qualification.
You must also change ALL to ANY so that the discount is applied for any of those values.
For Example
Example 1 will qualify the customer's cart for the discount if it contains Red, Purple, or Green products.
Example 2 will qualify the customer's cart for the discount if it does not contain any Orange products.
Configuring your Actions
The Actions section of a Discount Rule lets you choose how the discount is applied, and what that discount is. Begin configuring those details and refer to this support article.
Everything we've done on the Conditions page was evaluating the entire cart, but if your discount is Percent of product price discount for example, you need to add more logic to determine which specific items will be discounted.
- Click the green '+' in the bottom section.
- Select your Product Attribute, and set the qualification for its value.
- You can repeat step 1 and 2 for each attribute value that should qualify a product for this discount. If you have more than 1 qualifying value, you must change ALL to ANY.
For Example
Example 3 will qualify any Red, Yellow, or Orange products for this discount.
Example 4 will qualify any color product for the discount, except for Orange.
Example 5 will only qualify items that are Red, Yellow, and Orange for the discount. This is typically not correct unless your attribute is a multi-select.
As always, be sure to test your discounts rigorously before making them available to your customers!
