Locale Values for hreflang tag

Overview

The value of the hreflang attribute is that it identifies the language (in ISO 639-1 format) and optionally the region (in ISO 3166-1 Alpha 2 format) of an alternate URL. For example:

  • de: German content, independent of region
  • en-GB: English content, for GB users
  • de-ES: German content, for users in Spain

For more information please read the guidelines posted by Google

Settings

By default Zoey will use the locale code for your selected language. (i.e. English (United States) will use en-us). If you would like to specify a different locale, you can do so in the Locale Values for tag setting in Setup > Localization > Multi-Language SEO

Locale Code May Be Different

If you have set a value for code under Setup->Localization->Manage Languages then that code will be used as the locale code for the URL.

Locale Values for Tag Setting

This setting allows you to specify either a Language OR Language + Region code, all compliant with Google's standards. For instance, you can specify "en" for English rather than "en-us" which will specifically target English speakers in the United States.
