# Scanning Barcodes in the Admin

A Product Barcode can be scanned in the Web Admin to add the product to the order cart, or to a shipment.

# How it works

## Scan barcode to add product to Order cart

Toggle **Enable Barcode Scanning** to scan product barcodes to add them to the order cart in the web admin.

<Image align="center" border={true} width="80% " src="https://files.readme.io/fae88aa92affb6f59ad60ac2a03dbf9a6882ba042e55a7cbc254239cca2e72ec-image.png" className="border" />

When you scan a barcode, Zoey will check the barcode attribute values set across your catalog to find the right item and add it to the cart.

## Scan Barcodes to Ship Items

To enable barcode scanning to add items to a Shipment, go to **Orders > Settings > Scan To Ship**.

Setting **Enable** to Yes will make it so a toggle appears when creating a new Shipment that will let you begin scanning barcodes to add items to the shipment.

Setting **Allow Partial Shipments** to No will cause a confirmation pop-up to appear when creating a partial shipment for he order. You can still create partial shipments but there will be a warning to avoid neglecting any items from the shipment.

## Adding Barcode to your Products

Go to **Products > Attributes** to create a text attribute called "Barcode".

> ❗️ Barcodes must be 8, 12, 13, or 14 characters long.
>
> "Invalid Barcode Format" will appear if the UPC or barcode is an unsupported length.

Your barcode for each product should be unique.

Then you can add a barcode to each of your products through Bulk Actions > Edit, or by importing a CSV file to set the barcode to your products.

### Set Barcode through CSV Import Template

| sku     | barcode                 |
| :------ | :---------------------- |
| ABC-123 | 92304829384910293482349 |
| ABC-456 | 54930845928349102395849 |

Once uploaded, you can use your scanner to add the products to cart through their barcode value.

## Using a Bluetooth Scanner

Zoey supports Zebra, Socket, and most other scanners that can connect to your computer through bluetooth.

* Connect scanner via Bluetooth to your device,
* Click **Scan Barcodes** and the cart will begin listening for scans.
* Scan your product's physical barcode, and then click Save Item Changes.

<Callout icon="📘" theme="info">
